The 2nd Half of the weekend was the popular West Waterford Ac Greenway Half Marathon . 7 Grange runners were brave enough to toe the line! Not sure if you all remember the weather last Saturday morning! 🌧️💨 ( the afternoon was lovely though🌤️). Marina will tell us more below about the weather and John about the race!
Marina:
“ Eurofins Greenway Half Marathon on the 30th of August was special Half marathon for me cos it was my last Half marathon 2-3 years ago, had to stop running Half marathons cos had hip/glute injury but finally after few years I decided to run one. People call it flat (not so flat) but surface is good, some people call it boring but I think views are lovely only this time I couldn't see any fecking views, rain was heavy and wind was very strong especially last 10k, head down, ran well managed to talk to people, I have to talk 🤣, nicest part was a tunnel - 400m rain and wind free 😀, stopped at the water stop 1 and 2 to drink water cos water was in the plastic cups, ran through water stop 3 cos at that stage water was coming out of my ears (rain got even heavier), long pull to the finish was hard but after 11 miles i knew that I have PB in my pocket and that rain or wind had no chance of stopping me 😆😆. Will I go back there next year? I will!! Have to see those lovely views after all”
John:
“Ah Clo, I’m on holidays, I’m sure you wouldn’t give a student homework on their break….
You’re never too old to learn and the Greenway Half taught me a lot. 1 West Waterford AC are one of the best when it comes to organising races - top notch. 2. The member of their committee responsible for putting out the Child Of Prague will surely get the boot. 3. The Copper Coast is supposedly beautiful. Seeing the beauty in horizontal rain and gale force winds is difficult. 4. Some runners are afraid of the dark, I’ve entered the long tunnel with company the last few years and left it on my own, they have to be frightened to take off at that pace. 5. Never trust a runner when they say they’re going to run at a certain pace, it’s always faster and in this case a lot.”
And here are their results:
John Murphy 1.22.20 1st M55 🥇👏
Justin Nkomo 1.33.47
Marina Lilina Seymour 1.37.05
Brian O’Connor 1.38.11
Eileen Finn 1.41.40
Ronan McDonnell 1.47.11
Michael Pratt 2.13.38
Congratulations guys! Great running!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Sorry Justin, I couldn’t find any photo!
